Bruce Miles (Managing Owner)

I started my farming career doing summer work during high school on a large beef farm.  They also raised sweet corn and tomatoes that were sold at a roadside stand.  During the winter I assisted a large animal veterinarian with calls during the weekends.  I graduated from the agricultural program at Potomac State Colege and continued my education at West Virginia University.

After working for one year at the dairy research farm at WVU, I moved to North Carolina to take a position at Maple View Farm and worked in the dairy business for five years.  I then purchased a small farm and constructed two commercial greenhouse.  I produced vegetables, bedding plants and had a flock of sheep.  Products were sold at the Carrboro Farms Market, through the Piedmont Vegetable Growers Cooperative and direct sales.

In 1995 we purchased the property that has become Persimmon Grove.
